Program Goals
Students enrolled in the Information Technology program will:
Program Overview
Information Technology is a four year program, grades 9-12, with subject matter, and learning activities that are concerned with the basic principles and skill development in the Information Technology industry.
Population to be served
All students interested in pursuing careers in the Information Technology, and in pursuing post-secondary education leading to employment in the Information Technology. Students who are educationally, economically, and/or physically disadvantaged are mainstreamed unless disability prevents a student from benefiting from the program or creates a significant safety hazard to self or other students.
Housing the program
The program is composed of in-school classroom and field experiences in the school facilities that meet minimum state standards.

Occupations addressed by this program
The course consists of an overview of occupations in Information Technology.
Basic program operation
The course activities include classroom instruction and laboratory experiences. Instructional experiences are provided to develop fundamental knowledge, skills, abilities, values and attitudes in leadership, and employability skills for entering and growing in an occupation.
Applied academics
The academics related to the occupational competencies are defined in the Ohio Information Technology Competency Profile. The arts, social studies, language arts, foreign language, science, and math concepts are considered an essential and integral part of the competencies instruction and are intended to be presented in their applied mode through problem-solving techniques of instruction.
Technology
The curriculum includes knowledge and skill development in Information Technology. The underlying concepts and principles for these areas are taught as applied and transferable knowledge.
Critical thinking and decision-making
Developing and using critical thinking skills to make wise decisions is an integral part of classroom instruction and field learning activities. Students learn decision-making techniques through the problem-solving approach.
Citizenship development
The curriculum for this program includes instruction in developing positive citizenship values and attitudes regarding the school and local community, as well as state and federal areas.
Employability skills
Instruction in employability skills is provided to the student as a part of each program.
Lifelong learning
This program provides fundamental science, math, and communication concepts, which are relatively constant over time and applicable to a wide range of change in technology. Additional educational experiences as well as future occupational educational changes and advances can build upon these fundamental concepts.

Students enrolled in the Information Technology program will:
- Develop skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in the areas of Network Systems, Interactive Media, Information Support and Services, and Programming and Software Development.
- Be challenged to obtain the academic and technical knowledge necessary to pursue an associate or baccalaureate degree in Information Technology.
- Use problem-solving situations to develop analytical thinking.
- Show pride in their course-work experience.
- Be responsible to ones self and society.
